Windsurfing in Alacati
In the mid 1980's, a group of German campers, who were also windsurfers, discovered Alacati’s ideal conditions for windsurfing. The began to research the winds in the Alacati area and eventually found that ideal conditions existed for the sport, with winds very favorable to windsurfing being the norm 320 days of the year. It wasn't long before the word got out around Turkey, and Turkish windsurfing enthusiasts began descending on the area. Alacati soon became a windsurfing paradise, as well as one of Turkey's favorite holiday resort areas. Today, Alacati is considered one of the world's top three windsurfing locations.

Several windsurfing championships each year are now held in Alacati, and new contests are always emerging. Alacati bay is perfect for it, with a large section of shallow water used for training, as the rest of the bay is used by intermediate and expert level windsurfers. It's not uncommon to see children as young as seven years old, as well as senior citizens gearing up for a dash across the bay and back! Kite surfing is also done on Alacati bay, and schools and private instructors are available to learn or hone your skills in this sport as well.
